O’FALLON, MO (June 11, 2008) — The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard announced today that its 2nd annual Shelor.com Spring Drags have been postponed from June 20-21 to Oct. 3-4 at Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma. Although new tickets reflecting the October dates will be printed and distributed, all previously distributed tickets will be honored.
“Unfortunately, this is the second time I’ve had to make this announcement,” ADRL President Kenny Nowling said, referring to the previous postponement of the event’s originally scheduled April dates to June due to severe flooding at the facility. “But short- and long-term weather forecasts are calling for even more rain and we know from experience that would ruin any attempt to put on the type of event the ADRL is known for. As disappointing as it may be, it’s only fair to our race teams and fans to make this decision now and save them the time, trouble and expense of traveling for nothing.”
Track owner Dan Guterman said he agrees with and supports the ADRL’s decision to postpone the event.
“Nobody is more disappointed than me with this second delay, but I also realize it’s the right decision for all parties concerned,” Guterman stated. “We’re very excited about the ADRL coming to Tulsa Raceway Park and the added wait is going to be almost unbearable, but we completely support Kenny and the ADRL in this action. It’s the right decision.”
Nowling reiterated his desire to act in the best interests of ADRL racers and fans, especially in regard to the record-high fuel costs both groups are currently facing.
“After making long, expensive trips, our race teams and fans deserve to be able to compete in or see a race, but I’m not confident that could happen in less than two weeks at Tulsa ,” Nowling explained. “ Tulsa Raceway Park is a top-notch facility and also deserves to showcase itself, so while I’m anxious to bring the excitement of ADRL competition there, I think this move to October will benefit everyone.”
The next race on the ADRL’s nine-event 2008 schedule is the 2nd annual Shelor Motor Mile Independence Drags July 4-5, at Motor Mile Dragway in Radford , Virginia . The 2nd annual ADRL Shelor.com Spring Drags will now be held Oct. 3-4, at Tulsa Raceway Park , following the ADRL’s Hushpower Dragstock V Sept. 12-13, at Rockingham , North Carolina .
