[coverattach=1]MADISON, IL (August 1, 2010) — The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) had just a short two-week layoff as it prepares for its second straight double-race weekend.

On August 6-7 at Gateway International Raceway (GIR), the ADRL will complete one of its busiest stretches in history with the ADRL Hardee’s Gateway Drags III before what could be another record-breaking crowd.
But that won’t be the only race that will be completed over the two-day stretch.

After rain forced the postponement of the ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV in early July, the finish was moved to Friday at GIR.
The Independence Drags will be completed on Friday, with qualifying also taking place that day for the Gateway Drags. A day later, the Gateway Drags will be completed. It will make for a heated two-day stretch, featuring two races with the world’s fastest 1/8th mile doorslammers.
The Gateway Drags are the seventh of 10 national events this season. By the end of the weekend at GIP, all seven races will have been completed as the ADRL enters the final stretch in another banner year.

The first round of eliminations were completed in four of the five classes at the Independence Drags. Only Pro Extreme has yet to complete its first-round matchups.

In 2009, winners at the Gateway Drags included Travis Davis (Pro Extreme
Motorcycle), Brian Gahm (Extreme Pro Stock), Billy Glidden (Extreme 10.5), Mike Castellana (Pro Nitrous) and Mike Janis (Pro Extreme). All of it was done in front of an ADRL and GIR record crowd that topped 100,000 fans over the two days.

This year, the ADRL is expecting even more excitement in each of the five (Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme Pro Stock, Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme) professional eighth-mile drag racing classes plus the Pro-Junior dragsters.

The spectator gates open at 9 a.m. Friday; with racing set to begin at 11
a.m. Friday will feature the conclusion of the ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV, with qualifying also taking place for the Gateway Drags. A special jet-car and monster truck pass concluding the evening session.

On Saturday, the racing will begin at 11 a.m. with the fourth and final qualifying session of the Gateway Drags. Final eliminations start at 3 p.m., with a special jet-car and monster truck pass concluding the evening.
