VALDOSTA, Ga. (May 1, 2007) - As the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League has grown and evolved over its four-year history, a number of traditions have begun to emerge. One of those will be renewed this weekend when the ADRL visits South Georgia Motorsports Park, the organization's most frequently-used facility, for the Camp Motorsport Georgia Drags.
The Georgia Drags will be the fourth ADRL event held at SGMP, the most for any track since the league got its start in late 2004. This year's event, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, is the third of eight on the 2007 ADRL schedule (including April's rain-delayed Montgomery event).
All four of the ADRL's professional classes will be featured at the Camp Motorsport Georgia Drags, which begin with open testing for all entries from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. (local time) on Friday. A single round of qualifying will follow on Friday night, leading into a typically busy Saturday on the ADRL circuit: two more rounds of qualifying (noon and 2 p.m.) and eliminations in all four classes (beginning at 7 p.m.).
The Georgia Drags will also feature the rain-delayed final rounds from last year's ADRL World Finals, with Joshua Hernandez and Dwayne Watkins meeting for the Pro Extreme title and Harold Martin and Terry Housley squaring off to determine the Pro Nitrous champion. Those two final-round showdowns will be part of third-round professional-class qualifying on Saturday.
Mike Bell (Pro Extreme), Charles Carpenter (Pro Nitrous), and Rodney Rosenstiel (Extreme 10.5), the event winners at the 2007 season-opening event in March, are the ADRL's points leaders heading into the Georgia Drags; the Pro Extreme Motorcycle class has not yet completed an event. Once the make-up races from the World Finals are completed, drivers will be awarded points from that event, as well, making this weekend's Georgia Drags a potential points-scoring bonanza for a number of competitors.
SGMP has previously played host to the first Dragpalooza event (2005), the inaugural Sunshine Drags (2005), and the second edition of the Winter Drags (2006).
Event Schedule
Qualifying
Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturday, noon and 2 p.m.
