On Monday after the Phoenix race my wife and I drove to Tucson in search of the original Tucson Dragway. I spent almost every Saturday there from 1966 until we moved to Arkansas in 1970. I hadn’t been back since then.
Back then the track was a long way out of town.
Now there is a large subdivision about 150 yards north of where the track is.
Turns out the owner was using it as as airfield for flying drugs in from Mexico.
There is a fence on the north end of the property. And there is a sign saying the land is scheduled for rezoning.
The starting line is still visible.

this is the fate of most tracks, large acreage of now prime land. I know it is only a matter of time for National Trails 300-500k houses just north of it.
