Memphis, Sunday: Funny Car pro, Tim Wilkerson had his day end in the first-round of action at the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park, when a mechanical problem beset his Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
Wilkerson was ready to give his opponent, John Force a run for his money, but Wilk smoked the tires early in the run due to a clutch malfunction. Force smoked the tires after half-track, but posted a 5.356 against Wilk's coasting, 12.108.
"It wasn't suppose to do that," said Wilkerson, "but we had a clutch malfunction. I had it set-up to go right down through there just so that wouldn't happened. It's so frustrating when something like that happens. But we already know what happened to it, so we'll make sure it doesn't happen again. And it make it worse, Force was there for the taking. But he didn't beat us; we beat ourselves."
