Qualifying: Shawn Langdon was the No. 5 qualifier at the American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals. Langdon’s best qualifying attempt was a 3.891-second effort at 322.96 mph during the second of three qualifying rounds on Saturday.

Eliminations: Langdon defeated Cameron Ferre, Dan Mercier, points leader Tony Stewart and Justin Ashley on the way to his third win of the season, more than any other Top Fuel driver. It was the 22nd win of his career.

When Langdon advanced to the semifinals, he earned a spot in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge next week in Norwalk, Ohio. During Saturday’s qualifying sessions, the drivers who reached the semifinals in Richmond will re-run the semifinals and final earning additional purse and championship bonus points.

Unofficial Point Standings: Langdon leaves Richmond in second place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He trails points leader Tony Stewart by 31 points.

Langdon on Richmond: “This team’s been ready for a day like this for a long time; I have a great group of guys on this Kalitta Air Careers Toyota team. (Crew Chief) Brian Husen leads the way for all these crew guys who put the car together flawlessly and give me a great car every Sunday. It’s not easy running guys like Tony (Stewart) in the semifinals and Justin (Ashley) in the final. I could see Justin poking out a little bit where he was starting to drive away, and then something happened. He disappeared, and I saw the win light – obviously that’s a good thing on Sunday.

“Today was a matter of surviving the heat and surviving the track; it’s a beautiful facility with the smoothest track we go to on tour – it’s just the hot temperatures that make it a little tricky. You have to navigate that, and fortunately, we did that four times today. I’m very happy for my team, and everybody at Kalitta Air, Toyota, Dayco, SealMaster, Revchem, Mac Tools and DHL – thank you guys!”

“It was a survival weekend for us in Top Fuel and Funny Car,” Crew Chief Brian Husen said. “We just tried not to smoke the tires and do the best you can. To be honest, we just kind of got lucky and made the right decisions. We tried not to push too hard, and it worked out for us. We’re pretty happy about that!”
