INDIANAPOLIS. (Aug. 31, 2025) – – Shawn Langdon broke the 340 mph barrier setting the Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park speed record at 340.90 mph during qualifying 61 years after Team Owner Connie Kalitta became the first driver to break the 200 mph barrier at the same track. The Cornwell Quality Tools U.S. Nationals is tomorrow at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. The race broadcast is set for 2-5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1 on FOX.
Langdon’s track-record run, a 3.717-second effort at 340.90 mph in his Applied Innovation/Kalitta Air Careers dragster, comes 61 years after Team Owner Connie Kalitta made the first-ever 200 mph run in national-event history at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1964. It was the first 200 mph run at Indianapolis Raceway Park but the second in NHRA history. Don Garlits had already broken the barrier but not in a national event. Langdon is the third Top Fuel driver to break the 340 mph barrier following his teammate, Doug Kalitta, and Brittany Force.
“I’m pretty pumped about that one,” Langdon said. “Good job to the team and good job to Brian (Crew Chief Brian Husen) and everybody else on the Applied Innovation/Kalitta Air Careers Toyota team. They give us the opportunity to do cool stuff like going 340 mph. I was a little surprised; I thought I clicked it a little bit early, but regardless, it still said 340 on the scoreboard. Hat’s off to the team, SealMaster, Superior/PJH and Revchem.”
In tomorrow’s final regular-season race, Langdon is the No. 6 qualifier; he will race No. 11 qualifier Clay Millican who won this race last year. Doug Kalitta is the No. 4 qualifier; he will race No. 13 qualifier Tony Schumacher. In Funny Car, J.R. Todd is the No. 7 qualifier and will race No. 10 qualifier Bob Tasca III.
