SONOMA, Calif. (July 26, 2025) – Ron Capps powered to victory on Saturday at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals, picking up his second Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge win of the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season. Aboard the NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra, the three-time Funny Car world champ clocked a winning 3.904-second at 324.20 mph run to defeat Matt Hagan in the final round of the Mission Foods-backed race-within-a-race. For their efforts, Capps and the NAPA team were rewarded with a $10,000 purse and three championship bonus points, which will be added to their total when the playoffs begin in early September.

Capps secured his spot in the specialty race when he advanced beyond the quarterfinals at last week’s Northwest Nationals near Seattle, where he finished as the event runner-up to Hagan in his fourth final round appearance of the season.

“I’m so happy for Toyota,” said Capps, who now has five overall Mission #2Fast2Tasty wins, including his triumph from the Phoenix race earlier this year. “It was a big matchup last week against Hagan – Toyota versus Dodge. So, to have a repeat here and get the win for Toyota, with the support they’ve given drag racing, especially here, it was really cool. We’re so fortunate to have such great support from all our partners. We have a huge contingent of NAPA people here, over 600 of them, so for NAPA, Toyota, Carlyle, Revchem, it was great to get that win today.”

Capps, a native of San Louis Obispo, opened the weekend at his home track by taking his NAPA Supra down the Sonoma Raceway dragstrip in 3.927 seconds at 330.96 mph to place him fourth after Friday’s first qualifying round. In round two, his machine overpowered the track, and he went into Saturday in the provisional No. 7 spot. During Q3, which also served as the first elimination round of the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Funny Car Challenge, Capps moved first and rocketed to a 3.908-second pass to defeat Spencer Hyde’s 3.902 E.T. on a holeshot. The run held up to be the third-quickest of the session, allowing Capps to bank a bonus point. Lining up against Hagan in the #2Fast2Tasty Challenge final round during Q4, Capps grabbed an early lead and charged to the finish line stripe in 3.904 seconds to score the win over Hagan’s 3.926-second effort.

“It’s a fight all year long,” added Capps, who now has a total of 10 Mission Foods championship bonus points thanks to his four #2Fast2Tasty Challenge appearances in 2025. “Hagan and I, we have so many battles; it’s fun to race each other. The wind was going, you can see the flags blowing full boar right, and in a Funny Car, you’ve really got to be ready for that because it feels like there’s three cylinders out on one side, so, a lot going on and I could hear him, like a video game, and then I see the guardrail (win) light come on and it’s the coolest thing ever to win a race like that.”

Capps, the 2024 Sonoma Nationals runner-up, will attempt to go two-for-two this weekend as he makes a run for his fifth Sonoma Raceway win. As the No. 7 qualifier, he will face No. 10 qualifier Chad Green in the opening round of eliminations, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. PT on Sunday. Capps is ranked fourth in the Funny Car point standings and has one prior race win in 2025.
