NORWALK, Ohio (Aug. 4, 2025) – Justin Ashley and the SCAG Power Equipment Toyota Top Fuel dragster team powered to victory late Saturday night at the Cornwell Tools Night Under Fire hosted at Summit Motorsports Park.
In the finals, Ashley faced off with Top Fuel veteran Clay Millican. Ashley had a clean 3.710-second pass at 336.82 mph while Millican ran into trouble and had to coast to a 7.578 at just 76.94.
“The first time we were at Night Under Fire was in 2021. It was unique because someone hit a transformer, causing a complete power outage. This was really our first full Night Under Fire experience,” said Ashley who picked up the 2025 Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals victory at the facility at the end of June. “It’s an unbelievable event. It’s an honor to be invited and included. Racing in front of a packed house of 40,000 people at Bill Bader Jr.’s track is special. Winning on top of that makes it even more special.
“Winning the NHRA national event here in June was really special and meaningful for our whole SCAG Racing team and my family. To come back here, run well again, and do so at night—just spectacular. It’s the kind of Norwalk sweep you dream about,” Ashley continued. “This does add to our momentum. Momentum is one thing, but more than that, it’s about the data. Two more laps in cool conditions and taking night information to apply at our next NHRA event in Brainerd, Minnesota and beyond, that’s even more helpful than the momentum piece.”
Ahead of the finals, Ashley qualified second with a 3.729-second pass at 335.40 outrunning Antron Brown’s 3.739 and Josh Hart’s 3.831 and coming up short only to Millican’s 3.684 at 328.86 mph.
In Funny Car the SCAG Racing duo of Daniel Wilkerson in the SCAG Ford Mustang and Dave Richards in the BlueBird Turf / Versatran Ford Mustang, qualified third and fourth. Richards’ 4.027-second pass at 305.84 mph came up short to Ron Capps’ 3.861 and Cruz Pedregon’s 3.931 but was better than Wilkerson’s 4.033 at 261.57. Capps would take home the Funny Car title defeating Cruz in the final.
SCAG Racing will be back on the Mission Foods NHRA Drag Racing Series circuit August 15-17 at Brainerd International Raceway for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Minnesota.
