“Dickie and Todd (Crew Chiefs Dickie Venables and Todd Smith) are doing a good job adapting to different conditions. We’ve had some races this year with different weather conditions within the weekend, but they do a good job adjusting. We have a really good track guy that’s new with us this year. I think he lives on the starting line; I’m not sure if he goes back to the hotel with us because my phone goes off at night and first thing in the morning with him sending updates about the track and the weather. With Eric (Auffenberg) getting that information back to the crew chiefs and them reading the weather back at the trailer, they’ve done a good job.
“Anytime a track they don’t race on a lot is repaved, it usually takes a couple runs for the rubber to get worked in so hopefully that’s not an issue going into the weekend. Thanks to Bristol Dragway and NHRA for getting the track repaved. Bristol is kind of a neat place on its own with some characteristics of the track there before the repave so we’ll see how it shakes out. It’s definitely a place I like racing. We’ve run well there in the past but haven’t picked up a win so hopefully we can change that this weekend.”

- J.R. Todd enters the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in second place in the NHRA Funny Car point standings. He trails first place Ron Capps by 15 points, less than one round of racing.
- Todd advanced to at least the semifinals at five of the eight races this season. He has one runner-up finish and four semifinal showings.
- Todd has two runner-up finishes at Bristol Dragway but has yet to win at Thunder Valley. His most-recent runner-up was in 2024.
- Todd is the 2018 NHRA Funny Car Champion and has 22 race wins in his career.
