Yes, I remember that. I was there, thought wow, all 5 second field. 1975 was when Don Garlits ran that 5.63 at 250, the first 250 speed. His ET stood for like 7 years as the record. Prudhomme ran the first 5 for a flopper. I seem to remember that there were a few T/F racers that ran in the 5.90's & didn't qualify. Yes I'm.... older.
I also remember Ontario in 1972, when Mike Snively ran the first NHRA 5 second run (& lost the race on a hole shot). Then Don Moody ended up running that 5.91, which was a jaw dropper. Of course, the big argument was who ran the first 5. Was it Tommy Ivo earlier in the year or Snively. I remember people in the stands saying Ivo had done it first & Snivelys' run was the first NHRA 5. The Crager 5 second club recognized Ivo's run, so.... And then, the Greek running 204 MPH at Alton, Illinois in 1960. (On hydrazine, I think). People still argue about that one. Heh
I haven't talked to Randy but can bet NHRA was not happy. I know when Gary Ormsby jr drove for Randy they set record at HRP 5.13 and they told him not to run that fast again. I think Reihart broke that record in Gainesville or Houston.
